Time for CRAFTING

I recently met a young mother who expressed a desire to include more crafting in her life but was having difficulty finding the time between work and family.  I can identify with her time constraints, even though I was a stay-at-home mom and community/church volunteer during the years when our children were at home.  It is important to find a creative outlet, but it must fit within the priorities of family and work.

My first response to this young mother was that her time for delving into crafts would come…in time.  I was 70 before my current deep season of crafting became possible.  Now I craft so much that we have a regular booth at a local farmer’s market.

My second response was that crafting is possible for her now.  She can craft with her kids, satisfying some of her crafting urge while building her family relationships.  Her other option would be a craft that doesn’t take up much space and can be worked on a bit here and there during moments of opportunity.

There are other areas of our lives that are either limited or put on hold for the sake of our children, our marriage, our family, our circumstances, etc.  Yet, it is good to talk about, plan, and prepare towards the fulfillment our personal desires. What are your hopes?
